[Milsurplus] OT: Microphone Point Source

Hi John,

Of course there is no such thing as an actual "point source" microphone but
if he's trying to sample a sound field with the least disturbance he could
try to use one of the little mic/booms that are part of some phone headsets
that use a tubular "boom" to bring the sound back to the mic.

Most likely the frequency response would not be great and perhaps the
directionality would not be what he wants.

Beside that, for documented frequency response and pickup pattern he'll
need a high quality electret mic in a mount and there goes his point in
space model. I could send you a high quality Boundary Mic (look them up -
either omnidirectional or unidirectional) with known characteristics but
that'd be far from a point in space unless he wanted to take it apart and
remove the cartridge and electronic board - that'd be a lot smaller but the
published specs would be somewhat compromised most likely.

Or something like a Shure MX-202 perhaps, but that's also a $200 mic and I
don't have any spares of those.
