He was always a little strange.  He introduced me to RTTY, for which I am
thankful, through his column in CQ magazine.  But way back then he got
connected with the Karlson loudspeaker and wrote a lot of total B.S. about
it.

One of his escapades I remember well - he was always knocking the ARRL,
and one time he wrote that he was tooling around Europe in his Porsche
and decided to drop in on an international frequency allocation conference
in Geneva.  The ARRL had no representative there!  Scandal!  Well an
editorial in the next QST stated that they didn't know anything about a
frequency conference in Geneva at that time, and they checked with the
FCC and the State Department and nobody there knew about it either.
