If you are near a good copy shop, many have large format scanners (work like fax machines). This can be stored in a suitable format, then opened in Windows Photo Gallery (standard on most machines). Hit "Fix" in the top marquee, then "Adjust Color" on the right side. Drag "Saturation" left to zero, then use "Adjust Exposure" to tweak Brightness and Contrast.
