I'm left wondering why one would trust these modern techniques (QR codes)
over a simple post-it-sized note in plain language with the same information.

Modern technology very soon becomes obsolete technology, and the products thereof
indecipherable.  But we can still easily read without any technology whole books
written many centuries ago.

I'd say:  Keep it simple (and totally non-electronic).  Technology is not always
your friend.
