Can't you just tell your kids to get someone to sell all the stuff on EBay? There are quite a number of low end bottom feeders who specialize in buying entire lots and then selling them. I have seen many items that were being sold as parts of estates by resellers who have no clue what it is they are selling but still the items tend to bring a good price.
In my case have been lucky being that at least two of my kids have displayed interest in the stuff and have not only seen me selling junk on EBay but have also gone with me to many ham fest and seen that there is some marginal value attached to this junk. I started this when they were in their teens by taking them to ham fest or military vehicle shows and along with the junk I am selling I also give them thing to sell and let them keep the money, or give them a half or whatever on things they sell while I am out buying more junk. Nothing teaches you the value of something more than making money from it.
If your concerned with getting a fair value maybe the best process is to start selling off the excess equipment you have now, if you have multiple storage units stuffed full, or so much equipment stuffed in your house now that you have to squeeze thru narrow spaces to get from one room to the other start considering selling stuff today and don't burden your kids with a mountain of junk tomorrow.
