"I kicked a hole in the wall of our hallway as a tempestuous teenager. My 
Dad didn't smack me - he made me fix it, as Bill recommended, using nothing 
but the best of materials and, of course, the entire wall had to be 
re-textured, primed and painted so it all matched....... "

Similar, chucked a pound of solder through a sixty year old redwood plank 
wall.  Could have replaced the plank, but NO, had to cut it out with a 
chisel, find a piece with nearly identical grain, then stitch it in to the 
middle of the plank with no seam showing.
