[Milsurplus] to paint or not to paint

I received this reply off-list:

"If your receivers are -4 or earlier, they were originally black...  If they are -5 (bench) or -6 (rack) they were, at least according to the manuals, originally gray."


I think this is a good guide. If they were originally gray, leave them. I certainly would not paint the RBB, that is original black wrinkle, 
gray to "match" the others.
