Once, while in a friend's house, in the company of him and
his dear wife, I was teaching electronics, and I unconsciously
looked at a resistor, and counted on my fingers:

The lady winced, and I never did that again.
That was uncouth back then.
That's been around a long long time.
Then in telephone work, on cable pairs, it was nicer:
