[Milsurplus] "Solid State Chokes"

One of our good members recently brought another
interesting "Borg Implant" board to my attention.
It's named a "solid state choke"- a tiny board
with a MOSFET active device that claims the
efficacy of a 50 Henry choke at up to 200 mA output,
with over an amp surge.
I've seen some devices claimed as "solid state chokes"
that were actually high-voltage linear regulators,
but this device is different.
Wondering if anyone here has any experiance with
this sort of circuit or any thoughts about it.
