Meir,
What I was suggesting is a two step process: translate the characters to
their ASCII (or other machine readable) code; then machine translate that
to English via Google or equal.
It works with several languages. It'd work w/ Chinese except that there
are too many possible characters. It roughly works with some Japanese.
