I would go with mineral spirits, or my favorate Heptane (rubber cement
thinner).

White gas is a bit to volitile and goes boom! more easily.
Alcohol, of any kind, is not a really good grease solvent.

You might also consider Fantastik  (NOT 409!). 409 kills some plastics.
Wash and dry well afterwaers
