Well I was that guy. I replied direct to someone and that was my excerpt.
To add to that I went to vocational school electronics, spent my summers
doing installs for a local two-way shop. I did eventually go to tech
college and now work for a Motorola shop doing bench work.

I also mentioned of my close friends who went into the trades we are doing
just fine in this economy. Of my friends who went to 4 year universities
and got degrees in under water basket weaving can barely get a job in food
service and retail. They have huge amounts of debt compared to my 5,000
dollars of debt which is now paid off.

It used to be very few people went to university now almost everybody does
and they all expect 6 figure incomes...its kinda a supply /demand thing.
College is more expensive and more people are going and the jobs they are
getting just don't pay enough to justify the cost.

Also I am painting with broad strokes. So before anyone gets their knickers
in knot. I do know that a 4 year university can provide a great pathway to
an excellent paying career. I'm referring to the large majority of students
who spend a few hundred thousand for under water basket weaving degrees.
