I was just reading a piece about electronic reconaissance aircraft.
Said there were a number of such aircraft in the waning days of WW-II,
and then all the equipment was pulled out and scrapped. Then just
a few years later the Navy realized they needed that capability again.
So they sent guys in civilian clothes and carrying bags of money to
the famous Radio Row of NYC and bought everything they needed.
