I've been to Dayton 3 times over the years & it is sad to have personally witnessed its decline. The great WW2 surplus sellers & the guys selling the cool Motorola programming gear are gone & the variety is just not there any more. I believe it has fallen victim to the economy & the internet. In the case of Motorola I had heard a rumor that they sent some Federal marshals & corporate lawyers to Dayton one year & there was unpleasant fallout.
I experienced the same problem with the sun on my first trip. It was relentless & inescapable. I slathered my face with sun lotion which proceeded to get into my eyes & bring me into the medical trailer to have my eyes washed out.
The really neat thing about visiting Dayton is the astonishing rate of growth of the Air Force Museum. One year I got to stand under the open bombay doors of a B-36, which was awesome.
