[Milsurplus] BC-344: "Capacitor Modification"

I'm currently working on a BC-344D and saw something I had not seen before.

"Capacitor Modification" is stamped on the rear of the RF and Detector boxes. Inside are Mallory "Plascaps" instead of Micramolds. The same is true in the IF and Detector cans. Inside the RF Oscillator box is a black beauty instead of a Micramold. The work is done well. According to a stencil on the front panel, this set received the MFP treatment in 1951.

Did the military routinely do overhauls on these sets to remove the Micarmolds (much the same as it did later in removing the black beauties in the SP-600s)? Was there an MWO documenting these changes? Could the capacitor replacement have been done as early as 1951, when this set was MFP'd? How long did these sets remain in service? (I'm just brimming with questions, aren't I?).

The Plascaps and black beauties were leaking as badly as Micramolds. Once they were replaced, this set performed very nicely. The oil-filled three-part caps are original and are all in good shape. It's a great set for listening to ballgames while I putter around in the workshop. (Unfortunately, one of our two local sports stations just switched to FM!).

As always, thank you for your help and your collective knowledge.
