I like the message bombardment idea.
Did I read the second idea right?? You bash a reserve item seller, who has otherwise treated you well and honestly, after you willingly participated in the reserve auction & thus accepted his terms of sale??? That sounds like mere meanness. And probably doesn't make a clear point to the seller about reserves at all.
If I wanted to make a point to a seller about reserves, I think I'd email him and explain how I loved the item, had a pocketful of dearly departed Uncle Joe's cash I was burning to spend, and really wanted to drive the sale higher at the last minute, but due to personal dislkes of reserves I couldn't bid the sale price higher than it sold for. Then he'have an idea that reserves may be costing him sales.
OTOH, they will probably continue reserves on items for which they need some insurance against a really bad auction.

The one thing that can be done will require organization and some effort
from many people. It is simply to bombard sellers with questions and
comments. Once they start getting a hundred questions or so about why
Carfax information is no longer provided, and statements that the
vehicle is of interest but you will not bid without a free Carfax, they
will take notice. Take a few minutes and do it even if you don't want a
vehicle, they have no way to know. Also, everyone has to stop being
good guys when it comes to feedback, especially the hidden "star"
ratings. They DO have an effect. Also be aware, you can not comment on
"Communication" in the "star" catagories any more unless you ask the
seller a question . I now always ask a question so I can give one star
in every catagory if I am unhappy. I hate "reserve" pricing with a
passion, and always give 1 star in every catagory regardless of how good
the item is, and tell everyone I can how much I have bid if I have not
reached the reserve price. Shopping and buying is not a game, it's
serious business and needs to be regarded that way. It is time for to
stop talking and start doing.
