[Milsurplus] Retransmission Question

Many Post WWII sets have a retransmission function
built into them.  The manuals say this is provided
to extend range.

But I wonder, was the retrans function ever used operationally to
interconnect two different radio nets, for
example an infantry and an armored net?

And second, was any use made of retrans between
two different bands, say UHF-AM (225-400) to VHF-FM?
