Hard to indentify the unit below the kraut TBY. With the indentation -
handholds on the side
for carrying, it makes me think of signal generator equipment by Marconi (
U.K. ).
These, what I would call entry-level war films, always leave me so
disappointed. Would
Sgt. Dane really park his tank in the middle of the street like that? Do
tanks sound sheet-
metal hollow when you climb on them? Why do the Germans' uniforms always
look like
they just came from the tailor? G.I.s pass by a table with fresh food and
BOTTLES on it
without grabbing some? Someone shot at close range with high caliber
automatic weapon
and no mess? Several people gunned down in close quarter combat and the
civilian witnesses
calmly walk out of the room? Oh, by the way, Sgt. Dane wants to decline
infantry associating
with his tank? Considering how visibility is from a buttoned up tank, is
that how tank commanders
really preferred to operate, and what tank doctrine dictates?
I wonder, what did actual combat veterans think when they viewed such
entertainment?
Could they stand to watch it?
I saw a little bit of 'Pacific' last nite on You Tube, after this. One
charge by U.S. marines
looking like a bunched-up banzai charge. A couple automatic weapons would
have really
reaped a harvest there.
