These were commonly used as a link between CICs (Combat Information
Centers) in large formations.  Where the TBS nets would include all the
members of a division(battleships, destroyers, aircraft carriers), the low
band FM net would tie the CICs of the lead ship in each of those groups
together.  Another radio of similar type, which is in place on
MASSACHUSETTS, is the Motorola-made MAN.
