Hello to All,
My first AN/ARC-2 was purchased at the Foothill College Ham radio swap many years back for $5.00 and delivered to my truck by the seller and his hand truck. Never a better deal have I struck!. Not long after, a rack mount and remote control head turned up (thanks L. G.), connectors and manual reprints (thanks R. D.) , and this now was a working no ham mods AN/ARC-2
I regret selling it at a West Coast MRCG meet some time back since after major surgery I could not lift and move it without significant inconvenience.. Later on (and in better shape!) I had two more of these pass through here with some of the mods Mike M. spoke of. Evidently the antenna current meter was a bust. On those units that I once owned (3) two had "working" meters and they were "sticky" at best. The third had no meter at all. I have constantly looked for that meter on eBay and never have found one. It's a 2 mA full scale with a 200 mA full scale marking. My thinking is that these long used in Navy service units suffered some salt deposits into the meter movement as they were not hermetic.
Miss that first ARC-2 as it was the best the three.

This is an interesting observations since I have an essentially NOS ARC-2 on
he shelf. While I did not get it in its original crate, it has no scratches
t all or any other sort of blemish and has not been played with either. I
ssumed they were relatively common. 73 - Mike

I'm still looking for a really nice ARC-2 if anyone ever runs across one.
Condition is everything, must be really nice.
It is not very likely that you will ever find such a thing.
A few exist that somehow got kept out of use when owned by the Navy or
oast Guard. But most RT-91/ARC-2 and RT-298/ARC-2A units had long service
ife. I saw some still in use at NAS Corpus Christi in 1972. They will
efinitely show signs of use...and if it's the older RT-91, it most likely
ill have been field-modified to have some of the characteristics of the
T-298, like fuses added to the front panel and the disabling the RF
mmeter.
The mounting rack and the control boxes are very scarce.
It's a visually very attractive set, even when not in NIB condition.
Good luck.
