Richard,
There are several octal base rectifiers with directly heated cathodes.
5R4, 5U4, 5Y3, etc. (5Y3 violates the nomenclature assignment guidelines),
However, I didn't intend to imply that there were a lot of them, merely to
illustrate how the system was supposed to work (but didn't always).
