[Milsurplus] 1980's Navy R-390A's

I seem to recall back during the first Gulf war that a bunch of
R-390As along with FRC-93s were pulled out of storage and rehabbed for
shipment to the desert when the fine sand in the area plugged air
filters and static from sand storms zorched front ends in the newer
technology. IIRC, Dennis Brothers got one of the contracts to go
through the gear. Of course, the ground war ended before any of it got
deployed and it was later surplussed (through Davylin or some such
company in California, I think).

This would seem to indicate that the gov't has or had kept some of
this stuff stockpiled. Maybe intentionally or through something as
simple as bad book keeping. That was 1991, and in 1994 a lot of stuff
was surplussed out of Tobyhanna depot too, if memory serves me
correctly. GRC-109s and a lot of other gear. So it wouldn't surprise
me to hear that there were stacks of new or reconditioned R-390As in
storage a few years earlier.

Information specifics subject to flaws from an aging memory, of course...
