While my friends know I'm a highly-opinionated conservative/libertarian, they also know I tend to reserve my opinions in technical forums like this one.  This time I'll make an exception.

World War 2 was the last war our politicians let us win.  And THAT I find utterly despicable.

I was born in 1953, and during my entire lifetime the United States has never been allowed to fight a major conflict the way it should be fought: to total victory.

At the end of such a conflict we owe our fighting men and women, among many other things, a newsreel like that one!  If we cannot deliver it, then we need to ask why not.
