Replacing Obsolescent Radio Receivers
The Commanders of the Service Forces of the Pacific and Atlantic
Fleets are participating in a program to replace obsolescent radio
receivers with AN/SRR-11 and AN/SRR-13A on vessels under their
logistic responsibilities.
The replacement program began in January when AN/SRR-13A and RBB/RBC
receivers available from stock were designated for issue as
maintenance replacements of older receivers.
Only the RBB/RBC replacement had been started when the program was
expanded in May to include as many SRR-13A's as available stocks would
permit.
ComServLant and ComServPac determined by hull numbers the quantities
of obsolescent receivers for which the new replacements were desired,
and initiated shipment in accordance with a priority guide that was
set up by BuShips Instruction 09670.90 of 15 February 1957.
To facilitate shipment action, the Electronics Supply Office is
redistributing the new receivers to shipyards and repair facilities
which, in turn, issue them to ships as directed by the Service Force
Commanders.
An earlier program to replace AN/SRR-13 receivers with AN/SRR-13A's
was implemented by two BuShips Notices of 20 February and 8 April
1957, both numbered 9671.
The details of the later program described in this article - to
replace obsolescent radio receivers with AN/SRR-11 and AN/SRR-13A -
were promulgated to the Fleet and the shore installations concerned by
BuShips Notice 9671 of 20 May 1957.
