I've had a similar experience. Many years ago, I bought an estate
that had
several BC-211s in sealed cartons, including the "air-tight bag" (the
kind
with the red foil on the inside of rubberized canvas). I can't
remember
if I sold two or three of them. One of the fellows was excited
about being the first to open the box and I heard back from him
when he did. It seems many years in storage which was not
climate-controlled had taken their toll. The paint and plates were
great,
but plastic parts were discolored and warped. The plastic had
"outgassed"
and caused problems with surfaces. Controls were frozen solid.
He wouldn't take a full refund but we worked out compensation.
I don't know if he ever got it recovered. I had one unopened
remaining and,
when I opened it, I found the same problems. It's still out in the
shed somewhere.
I never heard from the others so I hope they had better luck.
We were both disappointed in our "new in crate" freq meter.
