IMHO, the "replace all the caps" advice is obsolete.
Give low B+ a try before you start recapping.
As Les, Dennis and others have written: 
Low B+ is the way to go with the  " ARC-5 " receivers.  
Capacitors that leak badly at 250 volts may- 
and usually do- work fine at 40 or 50 volts.
I run mine off the A+, 28 VDC with an external 
amplified speaker and am satified with the results
(but then, I'm not chasing DX ;-).

In many cases, you won't have to change any of the caps.
If you do, the audio amp cathode bypass is the first suspect.
A modern replacement is about the size of a pencil eraser.
Just clip the wire at the bypass cap terminal and leave
the wire in place.   Tack-solder the replacement from 
the tube socket connection to the nearest ground.
