The CRC-7 was indeed Korean war vintage.  And, I recall  seeing a ham 
conversion article back in those days, but I have no idea in which  publication 
it appeared.  Actually I found it in Vol. III of the Surplus  Conversion 
Manual series.  Warning: The article starts with: "First, you  need a sharp 
hacksaw...." But it does include a clear schematic.

Thanks George. I have the surplus conversion manual as you  say. 
 
I dont' know how they joined to top part of the tube to the  middle, can't 
think it was welded, maybe soldered with a special tool. 
 
Anyway, after cleaning I applied power to mine and amazingly  it still 
works on rx and tx. Not bad after 60 year say. 
 
I don't think I'll try a 2Mtr mod, getting at the xtal looks  just too 
difficult. I'll keep it as a working example, hi.
