I've never heard of a TUQ either. You sure it's not a TDQ, Niel? Take
a look at this link:

If it looks like that (could be all black), it's a TDQ. Your other
description of size seems to fit. If so, it's a WWII/post-WWII
shipboard VHF transmitter. Google has some info on it.
