I be leave this was discussion was had a few months back. There are those
of us who keep and operate Military Radio's, Trucks etc as they were
designed. And those who like to modify the radio or what ever for some
other need. With the amount of WWII radio and electronics that were put
into the open market after the war it was only natural that New and Old
Ham alike would modify them for there needs. With the passage of time
those unmodified radios are becoming scarce and should be preserved. But
now we are seeing a fair amount of the modified or hacked items coming
into the market. As a young Ham in the Fifties I modified a command set
receiver and transmitter for my first real station. And I worked a lot of
DX on Forty meters. Would I modify those radios now, NO. But is a set
came along that had been done I would like to say I would purchase them,
fix them up and get on the air one more time with some real vintage gear.
The BC-455-B conversion did allow many to operate on Twenty, Fifteen, and
Ten Meters. I would say fix that Old Girl Up and wait for the top of the
Cycle an see what you can hear.
