[Milsurplus] Why lamp dimmers on ground radios?

Good question.  I suspect that the xtal filters in the 342/312s not  
used all that much in practice and so were dropped in certain later  
production models.  Save some $ and maybe address material shortage  
problems as well.  Had to do something with the hole on the front  
panel so the dimmer was added. Just my WAG. :^)
