The final manual on RBS, RBS-1 and RBS-2 is NAVSHIPS 900,324 (reprint
available). Nomenclature wise, there are two receivers (CCT-46217 and
CCT-46217-A) and three amplifier-power supplies (CCT-20235, CCT-20235-A and
CCT-20235-B) between the three sets. Electrically the two receivers are the same and
the -A and -B power supplies are the same. The base power supply differs
from the -A and -B in that R-901 and R-902 are flat molded type units in it
whereas in the -A and -B units they are tubular, mounted in fuse-clip type
mounts. Mechanically, the 46217 originally came in a vertical splash-proof
bulkhead mounted cabinet with hinged front (top) cover while the 46217-A came
with a mounting plate underneath for horizontal shelf or table top mounting.
And Navy Type coaxial connector adaptor on the front panel mounted so as to
hide the antenna and ground posts. All three power supplies came in the
same cabinet, with six shock mounts on top. The -B model had a flat plate
attached to the shock mounts which could in turn be attached to the bottom of
the horizontal shelf.

So, remove the receiver from the spash-proof cabinet or from the flat plate
and if -A model remove the coax adaptor and without the nameplate, it can't
be identified as to model or set. The base model amplifier-power supply
can be identified by the flat resistors. But with only the six Lord shock
mounts on top of the cabinet (no plate), the -A and -B models are the same.

At least so says the manual. I've never seen one of the splash-proof
cabinets, from which I surmise that when receivers were removed from ships for
salvage, the cabinets were usually abandoned in place.
