Reminds me of something...

Last year a gas company (Arizona Pipeline) drove ground rods into the earth 
near a valve site.  They connected a 5KW honda generator, one lead to the 
rod, the other to the valving, with automotive jumper cables.  I don't know 
if the voltage was 12, 120 or 220.  This setup was run for several weeks.
