[Milsurplus] No deep pockets - Any takers in Texas?

Looks like the guy might be doing a little trolling to see if anything will bite. Those who don't know ask anyone they think might and those become their "experts" at estimating market value. The same takes place in all areas of collectibles.

Everyone tells me that I sold my '67 Camaro recently at a "way too cheap" price. The problem with that "way too cheap" idea is that it was for sale over two years and a lot of people looked at it and wanted it. None could come up with the hard cash to buy it, finally someone did. I don't feel like an item that takes 2 years to sell in any market was priced "way too cheap". I made a nice profit on the old Camaro and enjoyed it for many years.

In collectible cars I blame the popularity of the Barrett-Jackson auctions on Speed TV for planting the idea in many nimrods minds that all old cars are worth a fortune, irregardless of condition and degree of collectibility.

One of the well known restorers of vintage radio gear could take that mess and probably make it worth the asking price. The parallel between the colectible car market and the vintage radio market is obvious. A 100 point Barrett-Jackson car is worth a lot and the identical car still sitting in a barn where it's been for 40 years is not worth so much.

Be careful when countering the views expressed by "experts" in any field, most react badly. (BIG GRIN)
