Well, I can think of two things good to say about C-Rations.  (1) they were 
better than K-rations.  (2) They were better than the food on the mess 
decks (USS Valley Forge in the Spring of 1968).  To the point that the Grunts 
had to mount armed guards to keep sailors from stealing cases of them off of 
pallets on the Hanger Deck scheduled to be lifted ashore to the BLT the next 
morning.  My favorite was the Salsbury Steak.  But you're right about the 
Tabasco.  I can't comment on the tuna, as I wouldn't eat tuna fresh off the 
boat.  And in fairness to Navy chow generally, we had an Ensign as Commissary 
Officer who should have been deep-sixed.
