Speaking of MRE's

If someone would put C rations back on the market, I would buy a case of
them.
My dad was stationed in Hawaii back in the early 1950's with the 25th
Infantry (Tropical Lightning) and he brought home some honest to god WW2 K
rations one day. I remember eating something a chocolate cookie thing a ma
bob and the other kids sampled the other stuff. Apparently we all loved it.
Anyway, when I was in the service it was all C rations. I remember
spaghetti and meat chunks, beans and meat balls. Lima beans with M-Fers and
roast beast with sauce and my favorites: fruit cocktail and peanut butter.
Some good stuff mixed in with some really nasty stuff. That's why when
someone broke down a case of C's for distribution it was always done with
the blank side of the boxes up so you didn't know what you were getting
until you had it in your hand. We heated up the stuff by dumping it in hot
water for spell. If you boiled it too long then opened it, you got a geyser
of hot fluid. Once in a while we got LRPS (Long Range Patrol Rations) but
they were more for the Vietnamese palate. They did come with tiny bottles
of Tobasco Sauce. Just like the bottle in the store but sized for a Barbie
doll.
