The on board receiver was a National 173 which looks very similar to the NC-183.

I was looking at my 1950 copy of Kon-Tiki by Thor 
Heyerdahl, and I think it has 
more photos than later editions. There is a photo 
of them operating radio on the
beach where they finally landed. One fellow is 
keying the a rig, which is the
British clandestine rig, low powered transmitter; 
one fellow operating a U.S.
Army handcranked generator, looks like a GN-58; and 
another fellow in
background sitting in front of what looks like a 
NC-183, which I think is the
receiver they had onboard. -Hue Miller
