Interesting thread and thanks, David, for posting the schematic. I've been
tinkering over
the past few years with a TX modelled on the GO-9. I originally had
837-837-803 but
could never get enough drive so now it's 837-1625-803. To get enough voltage
swing for
the 803 in Class C I found I needed 500V or more on the plate of the 837. I
see this is
consistent with Dave's schematic.
I haven't managed to get as much power from this lineup on 40m as I want
(which is
why I keep tinkering with the design). It won't dip properly. I suspect
there is a problem
with the pi network, or perhaps a parasitic (although it seems too stable
for that).
The 803, especially with porcelain base, is a majestic tube.
