Well, certainly a different frequency band, but, back in the late 60's I
built a 6 meter AM solid state rig maybe putting out a watt or two, and,
worked all over the states and South America on a halo. Admit, conditions
were good. More recently, using my BC-474 I worked up and down the east
coast without problems and it was fun. From the early 60's to the early 90's
I worked predominantly CW as I was at the time after DX. Now, low power AM
seems to be just as much fun. Of course I still enjoy turning on the T-368F
to clear the frequency, be guaranteed I am heard. Using my WS-19 set I was
heard in Wisconsin with an output of about 2 watts on 160 AM. Also, in the
late 80's Walt Hutchins and I managed to barely hear each other on 2 meter
AM each using an ARC-1. Walt was in Arlington and I was in Manassas, VA at
the time. Walt even ground the crystals so we could be on the same
frequency. So, you are right, it is not a way to go through life, but, it
certainly does bring back great memories and was a lot of fun. Hey, you
bought that TBY from me and you been boasting about your efforts since. That
radio is certainly no broadcast station, but, you had fun using it. - 73 -

Why on earth would someone do that?
We all know that "Crystal-controlled, weak, and on AM is no way to go
through life."
2 of the above generally ok.
