Audio output impedance in the BC-348 set for "Low" is 600 ohms, so your
speaker was a close match. However, the BC-348 was never designed to be used
with a speaker in the actual aircraft installation, only with headsets.
That's why you shouldn't be surprised that the volume is low with a speaker.
You can use a small external amplifier if you insist on using a speaker. The
volume is more then plenty however with the proper headset.

Subject: [Milsurplus] BC-348-R
I need a little help. I just picked up a nice, unhacked BC-348-R. On the
front, there is a label that says: "NOTICE: connected for low impedance
output." What impedance is that? I used a speaker with 500-ohms impedance
and the output is a bit low. What should I be using?
