[Milsurplus] R-808

It's been many years since I worked on an R-808,
but I remember all that I ever saw had a similar problem-
mechanical instability.  If you take the receiver out of its case
and turn it over, you'll find a large RF module that's removable.
Look closely as there are several screws, plugs and, IIRC, a
wire bolted to an insulator.  Pay attention to how the knobs are
set, then pull out the module.  De-Ox-It all the connectors and
wiggle all the tubes in thier sockets.  Then inspect all the soldered
connections- I've found where some were missed.
This procedure cured the instablity every time I tried it,
and it became a very nice set.
My last 808 got traded-off many moves ago.
I remember it as very sensitive, and I had the FSK module
which I used on TTY (once I got it settled down).
