[Milsurplus] More "not at a hamfest" items

There was a very humorous story I heard on a Short Wave broadcast some years
ago-- the announcer, in his college days, assisted another 'family money'
student in 'driving home' a PT boat he had purchased surplus. The PT boat
was located on the Ohio River.
After a shock at the cost of filling up the tanks with diesel the two lads
had a relatively easy and slow trip towards home until the new owner
decided to 'open her up and see what she can do' .
The boat literally came up out of the water and the inexperienced pilot had
no idea of how to control it. He did manage to keep it on the river for
about a minute before the boat rammed into a dock, destroying both it and a
couple of moored boats. Later he was presented with a bill for the damage,
including two small river craft that were capsized due to the wake of the PT
boat during its 'moment of glory'.

Keith, ve3ts

All the best,
Keith VE3TS
