Yep someone on the list had a procedure:
   Cut the plastic with a hot knife
   Dremel out thin out the top and bottom.
   Replace the guts with a ceramic disk.
      Note the Mica SMD may be a better choice these days.?!
   Clear epoxy the halves back together.

I call this a deep snow project.......
