[Milsurplus] A question of Value

Hi,

This conversation keeps coming back. We already know that opposite sides
of this issue want either all original or they want a 'daily driver'.
There are some people whose preferences lie in between. Because we have
had this same discussion on the lists numerous times I have come to my
own position regarding old radios.

First of all... I have radios to *use*. My use for those radios is
primarily on the ham bands with a little bit of 'shortwave broadcast'
and some utility listening. I have decided when I come into an
unmodified radio - working or not - that I will offer it to the
"collectors" before I make any modifications or repairs - aka butchering
the radio. My idea is to trade the original condition, unmodified,
unbutchered, radio for one that is already chopped. I've already made
that offer a couple of times and in spite of all the howling about
butchery I've had no takers. However, it costs me nothing but a little
wait in the surgical suite to make the same offer every time.

I hope that other people who have the same interests that I do will
consider making the same offer. One of these days we might actually have
a sample that somebody really wants.

There's my two cents worth. With rebates and discounts and inflation and
taxes that might be worth a lot less. Complaints can be registered by
pressing the red button located in the bear trap.

73,

Bill KU8H
