I guess the  answer lies in the  area of 'watcha want to do with  it'?

Might I suggest that aficionados of selected sets with feet in both camps ,
really need to have TWO.

One as original as possible ,  is kept  as  museum type piece to marvel over
and  show the unwashed multitudes  and the other is resurrected ,

made to operate as designed  to treat egos  and demonstrate how electronics
performed 60+ years back or  whenever.

 

Not for  everything of  course. can be  costly duplication, but sets with
technical heritage  and illustrative of  design innovation of the  era,
might serve all comers.

I think I've  solved my problem.. I have 2 identical and complete  BC-348-R.
one needs  surgery !
