Part of SCR-183, the BC-xx-230 transmitter is a neat little set.
You -AS- variant is the last order produced.
Originaly designed by Aircraft Radio Corporation in 1934,
they saw extensive service all the way through WWII,
mostly in training, observation and CONUS roles,
as well as being supplied to many allies.
I've recently completed an SCR-183 and have used it to
check into our local 75 AM nets. It has excellent audio
if you use a quality carbon mike and is surprisingly stable
when run as designed. Takes a little "tweaking" to get it
tuned up, but stays put once you do. Puts out about
4 watts. It uses four very expensive "audiophool" tubes.
I have substituted triode-connected 6AQ5s and
they worked just fine. Hook-up diagram
and parts lists at:

Insert a good quality NPO 75 pFd cap in series with
the antenna lead to feed a 50-ohm antenna.

If you decide to get serious about the set,
I think I have an extra 75-mtr coil.
