I'm with Clete on this. Thought I read somewhere that procedural traffic
air-ground was 12 wpm or so, not much more. I have an example of
the certificate Clete mentioned, and it's for ground operators.
If you look at one of the military air communications texts, you quickly
see that communications were BRIEF.
As for keys with "history", I mention that there's a fellow on the
Glowbugs list who has a key taken from an underground installation
on Iwo Jima.
Back to Aleutians. The radio supposedly was "found in a cave at
Cold Bay". There were no Japanese at Cold Bay, nor any caves.
It occurred to me that this phrase might have been a data bit
slippage, the original referring to "Holtz Bay", where there were
extensive underground installations. -Hue
