Mike, I've had two bug-like things that I gave away
many years ago, and haven't seen anything like them
since. One was made by the Canadian company
Dow. It looked much like a bug, but the dit paddle
assembly could be rotated 360 degrees in a plastic
truncheon. For lefties, maybe.
The other was just after WWII, and was an enclosed
metal box, about 3 by 3, 2 inches high, with the paddles
sticking out. The dits arm was bent 90 degrees to fit
inside the box. That was in Germany, so it could have
been made there.
The AT&T Telephone and Telegraph test rooms had
test desks with the telegraph key mounted upside down
under the desk cover. The knob was extended to stick
up through. Relay logic reversed the key contacts.
