Ray has it right - I spent untold hours obsessing about how to best match my TCS-8 to a window-line fed dipole. Played around w/a 4:1 balun run "backwards" to transform the 12 ohms up to 50 for co-ax. 

Marty cut to the chase:

"Shudn't need 1:4 balun to "get it right'.  Series VC to cancel linck XL shud be right"

Now, I get the same or better output w/much less fuss. That's what he was all about. 

Like many, I wish I'd had a chance to meet him.
