The AN series seem to have been most common on airborne radar and 
countermeasures sets, and therefore might be expected most likely on gun systems.  
Excluding audio (and telephone), coaxial, twinaxial, Spiral Four, and AC and 
DC power distribution type connectors, there were as best I can figure seven 
basic common connector families used with US military electronic equipment 
during WW-II:

AN
"K"
"P"
Large banana pin
Mini banana pin
Jones
Multi Pin Rack and Panel (of the general type used on AN/ARR-15, BC-603, 
604, etc., and a few others)

Of these, only one, the AN, included what might be described as a flange 
mounted cable connector.  I.e., designed to terminate a jacketed cable at a 
bulkhead.
