Speaking of old movies / programs with a lot of representation by radio gear...
Recently, I got hold of a DVD copy of the BBC miniseries production
of OPPENHEIMER
(development of the atomic bomb & afterward; Sam Waterston playing Oppie).
There's a number of scenes at Los Alamos that feature a Hammarlund
BC-1004 Super Pro,
and at the TRINITY test command bunker there's literally a BANK of
National HROs... one
of them brings in the news of the death of FDR.
Incidentally... this production also brings out the little known fact
that the TRINITY ground
command radio frequency was only a few KHz removed from the frequency
of the Voice
of America station at Dixon, California; they had serious QRM
problems because of that.
I also recently got hold of a copy of BATTLE OF THE BULGE, and noted
a couple of interesting
goofs re. radio gear in it.
First off... did you know that the Hallicrafters SX-28 was a
TRANSCEIVER that was commonly
used by GERMAN forces??? ;o)
Second... Tellly Savalis got the turret of his tank blown wide open.
In that condition we get a
great view of the BC-603 and BC-604 FM transmitter and receiver
(that's correct).
Due to a continuity goof, in one scene the turret is suddenly
displaying quite different comm gear;
the Royal Air Force's bomber radios are now installed in Telly's tank!
